By <strong>1823<\/strong>, the Batthy\u00e1ny family owned significant land in the area, and by draining a marshy area \u2013 now the site of the thermal spa \u2013 they attempted to expand their pastures. One of the day laborers, Pog\u00e1ny J\u00e1nos, was very dissatisfied with the construction of the channels due to his rheumatic pain, which was only aggravated by this task. That\u2019s why he was very surprised when, after working in the swamp, he <strong>was rid of all his pain<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p>News of this miraculous event quickly spread, and more and more people visited the sulfurous water channel to treat their ailments. From 1825, construction of a bath began, and the next major step occurred in 1866: under the guidance of the expert in artesian well drilling, <strong>Zsigmondy Vilmos<\/strong>, new wells were drilled in the area. This was made possible, even at the time\u2019s technological level, due to the unusually shallow high-temperature thermal water along the Hark\u00e1ny-Sikl\u00f3s-Kistapolca fault line.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>But why can the thermal water of Hark\u00e1ny be so effective in healing?<\/strong> The answer lies in the composition of the water, which has a high concentration of <strong>carbonyl sulfide<\/strong>. This substance is easily and quickly absorbed through the skin, and when inhaled as hydrogen sulfide, it has <strong>cartilage-strengthening<\/strong> and <strong>anti-inflammatory<\/strong> effects. Today, at the Hark\u00e1ny Thermal Spa, not only the spontaneous effects of the thermal water take place, but the city also tries to take advantage of its natural resources. The Harka Water World, opened in 2021, offers indoor experiences in bad weather and outdoor attractions when the weather is good.<\/p>\r\n<p>Discover what Hark\u00e1ny offers today!<\/p>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hark\u00e1ny Thermal Spa<\/h2>\r\n<p>The thermal spa, renovated in 2003, has a fully covered, a partially covered, and an open medicinal pool with a total water surface of 2098 m2, depths ranging from 110 to 153 cm, and temperatures between 34-38 \u00b0C (the water rises from 50-70 meters deep, with an average temperature of 62 \u00b0C).<\/p>\r\n<p>In the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal and joint diseases, osteoporosis, chronic gynecological inflammations, and disorders of lymphatic circulation, very good results can be achieved during a Hark\u00e1ny cure, as the water contains more than 1000 mg of minerals per liter. The thermal water of Hark\u00e1ny has been proven effective in alleviating the symptoms of psoriasis. Interestingly, there are only <strong>two other places in the world outside our town where this disease can be effectively treated.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>As mentioned in the introduction, the main component of the thermal water is carbonyl sulfide, which is 150 times more absorbable than other sulfur compounds (such as sulfates). The sulfur that enters the body plays an important role in replacing sulfur-containing compounds in cartilage, which is then incorporated into the body.
